A direct-to-metal route
NOVORUST 2550 DTM combines priming and finishing functions in a semi-matt modified alkyd coating. It may suit a project where using one coating product is useful and the specified preparation and film build can be achieved.
Direct-to-metal still requires properly prepared steel. The TDS states a minimum dry film thickness of 120 µm on steel, but also contains a lower general thickness entry. Confirm the complete application schedule with the manufacturer before specifying the work.
A separate primer and gloss finish
PROTECT 371 is the alkyd primer; NOVOTEC 3190 supplies the gloss finish. This route allows the preparation coat and final appearance to be considered separately. PROTECT 371’s TDS permits NOVOL alkyd topcoats. Follow both technical sheets when defining the full system.
NOVOTEC 3190 is applied over the specified prepared undercoats or other listed substrates. Its TDS does not list bare steel. Do not substitute the enamel for a DTM product.
Choose around the workshop process
Record the existing coating, any corrosion, the cleaning method and the equipment available. Then confirm the required finish, exposure, coating thicknesses and intervals between stages. A one-component coating removes separate hardener mixing; it does not remove preparation or inspection.
For an existing paint film, check compatibility and carry out the test application required by the manufacturer. Tell us if the work involves chemical contact, abrasion, immersion or a short shutdown so the limitations can be assessed.
When can the equipment return to service?
Drying and operating-hardness figures describe particular test conditions. Agree a return-to-service schedule for the actual temperature, film build and use. These documents do not establish approval for abrasive waste loading or continuous immersion.
Bring these details to the discussion
- Substrate and existing coating, with photos if available
- Preparation method and application equipment
- Service environment, including chemical or abrasive contact
- Area, required colour and finish
- Project location and required completion date
